The sourgrass has survived longer than usual this summer. There are still a few green stalks standing at the center of each plant, surrounded by flattened mases of brown stalks. Most years the plants are entirely brown by the middle of August. It's a testament to the relatively mild season we've enjoyed this year. Also to the amount of water I've used on them. Boy, is that going to cost me. I'm not looking forward to my next water bill. I've been irrigating the walnut tree, too, and part of the jasmine hedge, plus the trumpet vine and a number of other plants. Going for broke. On the other hand, the mild weather has kept the electric bill lower than usual, so maybe I can afford the water. But I'd better be getting a goatload of walnuts from that tree.
