Against Maintenance

The overgrown bushes in the front yard have been trimmed. It is now possible to see more of the street from the house. That means it's also possible to see more of the house from the street, and that in turn means that it is now more obvious that the house needs new paint. I can now see the disapproving expressions on the faces of passersby. Not only that, but I miss the big bushes for their own sake. Their shagginess was pleasant to me. It was a regrettable mistake to have the bushes trimmed. The birds who bed down in them every night would undoubtedly agree with me.
