Pre-Solstice Scorcher

A wind has come up, but it's just blowing the heat around. The rapid chirps of the crickets are unceasing. The night isn't going to cool off much, and I've turned the fan on, hoping that it will help the balmy outdoor air to replace the stifling indoor air faster than simply having the windows open will, but I still expect the house to be hot all night. Tomorrow will be a bright nightmare. I'll probably be forced to turn on the air conditioner for the first time this year. Too soon!

The only good thing I can say about this hot, windy night is that the wind isn't bringing any smell of smoke. There is a fire north of here, but the wind is from the northeast, so that area probably isn't burning yet. The wind won't do anything about he mosquitoes, though. They've gotten into the house. I suspect the feral cats of having damaged one of the window screens in the back room. They like to jump on it from outside, so they can look in and see what I'm doing. It has probably been pulled loose, allowing passage to insects. I might have to patch it with tape.

The weekend is apt to be hellish, so I intend to enjoy the mere semi-hellishness of tonight. I'll miss it tomorrow, I'm sure.
