Open your media player and listen to Capitan Betty by the band Marimba Centro-Americana de Guatemela, recorded in 1917.

And here is Besame One-Step, a somewhat muddier digitization of the flip side of the record.

There's nowhere near enough marimba music in the Internet Archive's music collection.

I went looking for marimba music because it seemed suited to the tropical atmosphere of the day. The day seems so tropical that when I look out the window it seems wrong that there are no palm trees, and even more wrong that there is no ocean in view. I'm sure that Capitan Betty would agree. Oaks and pines are nice, but today a change would be nicer.

Of course there is also marimba music on YouTube, but it all seems to be modern and you can hear the whole twentieth century in it. Here is one piece that is at least not overwhelmed by a North American-style drum kit.

Weather Underground is still saying we have a 20% chance of rain on Saturday. If it happens, I'll go out and dance in it.
