Belabor Day

The big fire in the mountains has finally been contained, and only a few areas inside the lines are still burning or smoldering, so there will probably be no more smoky days unless another big fire gets started. But the smoke has ended just in time for the late summer haze to replace it. It's the sort of haze that leaves the sky looking like a pale blue room that hasn't been repainted in a decade. I actually find it a bit depressing. I'd dearly love to see some big, fluffy cumulus clouds, or even a few stray cirrus, but there's not much chance of that happening anytime soon.

This afternoon I checked my mail box twice before remembering that today is a holiday and there will be no mail. There was plenty of email, though. The demons who operate the email system and their millions of gremlin workers never take any time off. If they did, the spam industry would collapse. Then where would we be? It's a good thing for the spam industry that demons are anti-union.

For Labor Day: Harry K. McClintock sings a song by Joe Hill.
