The waxing crescent moon was already behind the trees by the time the sky got dark, so I couldn't see it. By the time it's full, the equinox will have passed and October will be nearly here. There'll be plenty of time to watch the full moon as the nights lengthen. I might even have to be closing the windows at night by then, though I'm hoping for a mild autumn so I can leave the furnace off.

Maybe I'll get some wood for the fireplace this year, though I don't know where I'll stack it, and I don't like the fact that woodpiles around here always get black widow spiders in them. But I'm tired of smelling other people's smoke all winter and never getting any benefit from it. It's time I added to the stink myself, and got a lower gas bill.

Tonight I ended up skipping dinner. I had something planned, but when it came to actually cooking it I just flaked. I was lazier than I was hungry. Maybe I'll heat some soup again. The night is chilly enough to make a bowl of soup very appealing, and I have a fresh package of tortillas to go with it. An almost-autumn meal sounds good right now, and only one pan, one spoon, and one bowl to wash sounds even better.
