Life in the Hood
Mar. 22nd, 2013 10:35 pmI've got my new Everlast zippered hoodie on. It was a bargain at Kmart last Sunday, at less than four bucks. It's cozy, but it still smells like store because I forgot to wash it with the rest of the laundry. I'll have to wash it soon enough, as it is very dark blue and the material turns out to be the sort that likes to pick up cat hair. Portia being black and white, only some of the hair shows, but it really really shows. I like the hoodie anyway, though not as much as I liked the Kmart store brand hoodies they don't sell anymore. I wish they would bring those back. Mine are almost worn out.
Today would have been a good day to get started pulling up the foxtails that are sprouting all over the yard, but I was too lazy. Instead, I spent most of the day in front of the television watching real estate and home improvement shows. I will probably never buy or improve a house, so I like to see other people doing those things. I like it the way some people like horror movies, but buying and improving houses is scarier than any of the stuff that happens in a horror movie. Freddy Krueger could learn a thing or two from real estate agents and contractors.
But there was another reason why I didn't want to pull foxtails today. One of my big toes that once had an ingrown nail that was cut back decades ago has lately been getting sore whenever it is stressed by something like prolonged stooping, which pulling foxtails does involve. I'm thinking of it as phantom ingrown toenail syndrome, and I'm pretty sure it's variety of hypochondria that is my own invention. I am (quite justifiably, I believe) proud of this product of my creative imagination, so indulging it was surely the right thing to do— especially when there was so much horrifying television to be watched.
There's more horrifying television to be watched right now, and my computer is being really slow so I might as well let it have a nap. Maybe I'll do something with it tomorrow. Maybe I'll get to those foxtails tomorrow. And maybe Portia will stop shedding. Heh.
