Changing

October breezes bring rains of leaves, and threaten to become winds as they bluster about the yards, rattling the dried lilac bushes and rippling the surface of the big water bowl where the birds sometimes bathe and the cats sometimes drink. A gust covers the bowl with lilac leaves, floating there like miniatures of Monet's water lilies. The cats will be drinking lilac leaf tea.

This bluster announces a change of weather. The last warm day is ending, and the night will be cold. There could be rain tonight, and tomorrow there will almost certainly be rain. Autumn is returning, and any mild days that lie ahead will be rare treats. But other treats will be hot chocolate, tea with biscotti, and bowls of steaming soup. Not to mention pumpkin pie. Wait, did I mention pumpkin pie? I didn't buy any. Well, maybe it will be on sale again around Thanksgiving.

Some cinnamon rolls after dinner, then, and hot chocolate. Hello again, autumn.
