So Friday the 13th is National Day of the Horse. Now, that's just asking for trouble. Talk about riding for a fall! The Hallmark Channel must not have known about it, or they'd have had a Mister Ed marathon instead of all those sappy Xmas movies they're showing.

Not that I give an equine's rump about either lame event. They can take both out behind the barn and shoot them, for all I care. The only thing I've ever really liked about Christmas is the pfeffernusse cookies, and I haven't been able to find them anywhere for several years. I'm not good enough at baking (okay, too lousy at baking) to make my own.

Stella D'Oro Bakery used to make pfeffernusse every December, but then they went out of business and their name got bought by some baking conglomerate, and now they have only a very limited line of products available, pfeffernusse not among them. This makes me not at all merry. I ask you, if we can't get pfeffernusse cookies to enjoy on His birthday, what did Jesus die for?

OMG! Fox News is right! There is a war on Christmas, and pfeffernusse cookies were its first casualty! Wow, I feel like I just got thrown by a horse!
