Shadows

The moon is nearly full, and the ground is decorated with the stark, bony shadows of the bare oaks. A raccoon has visited the yard, but I haven't heard the owl tonight. Maybe it only comes around near dawn. I don't think I'll be awake for it tonight. I miscalculated dinner and ended up eating way too much. I'm so logy I probably won't even be able to stay awake until midnight. But if I go to sleep early maybe I'll wake up early, too, and then I might hear the owl again. It's too bad the moon will be gone by then. It's bright enough tonight that I might even be able to see the bird. I saw the raccoon quite clearly until it slipped into the shadows. And now I'm about to slip into the shadows myself. If I yawn any more my jaw might dislocate.
