There I went again, falling asleep in front of the television, and there ended up being no journal entry yesterday. If I'm 3,497th place in user ratings (that's what it is today) I'm going to have to be more careful. I've got a reputation to maintain now.
But the computer was doing one of those things Windows computers do— checking itself for ticks or whatever— and it's virtually unusable when it's doing that, so I went to watch television for an hour while it did its thing, and ended up falling asleep. I woke up in the middle of an infomercial about half past four in the morning. I didn't feel like writing anything then, so I turned the computer and the television off and went back to sleep and didn't wake up again until Portia decided that it was time for me to feed her. By then the sun was up and there were birds being intolerably cheerful in the bare trees.
The clouds that made yesterday so interesting have gone, and the rain prediction has been pushed back into the middle of next week. I'll believe there will be rain when I see it. Today I saw a bee, and I believe that. There are azaleas and camellias for it to pollinate. The bee and the flowers think it's spring, and my guess is that they know better than the meteorologists do. There is a tremendous amount of new growth on my rose bushes, and I'm sure it won't be long before they bloom.
There must have been a bit of rain yesterday and Tuesday night, though. When I went outside yesterday morning the pavement was all wet, and late in the morning I went out again and a slight breeze set the rose leaves trembling and they sparkled with drops of water. It must have sprinkled while I was indoors. I was sad to have missed it. It might have been the last I'd have a chance to see this year.
