It's a remarkably pleasant evening, mild and fresh. The day was vague, even when it was happening, but its memory is even more vague. I have an impression of undifferentiated clouds, a distant, billowing haze in every direction, visible but insufficient to block the sunshine. Or maybe I just dreamed it during my unintended afternoon nap. I got dinner out of the way early, so the evening is free except for those dishes that have to be washed. All this time and I don't know what to do with it. I'll probably end up just watching television.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I hear traffic on city streets, but that was another time. Those lights I saw have scattered into the universe, photons dissipated in the interstellar darkness. If I look at the night sky I'll see where they've gone, but I'll never see them again. I'll only see the light now escaping my windows to follow them. So long, photons. Give my belated regards to the ages.
