Dogged

The yappy dog who lives next door is outside tonight, and is making the yappy dogs who live the other side of the back fence yap. It's time to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows, but I don't want to hear the yapping so I'm putting it off. I have a headache that is probably related to my restless and insufficient sleep, which is in turn a result of the heat. The yapping of the dogs doesn't help it.

The day felt like one long belch from Hell, but the evening air is pleasant enough. It's just the sound I don't like. If the dogs would shut up I could hear the cricket better, and could stop running the air conditioner. I could sit outside in peace and watch the crescent moon settle into the pine trees. How much nicer things were when those houses were vacant. I miss the recession. I hate the dog days (and nights) of summer.
