Here I Numb
Dec. 25th, 2014 06:40 pmThe day was bright and sunny, but still quite a bit colder than I'd expected. Tonight will be very cold, and except for tomorrow and Saturday all the temperatures in the long range forecast are below 50 degrees. Most of the nights will dip into freezing territory, though there isn't going to be anything to get frozen except the water in the pipes and in the feral cats' water bowls— and my arse, most likely. Nothing is expected to fall from the sky for another ten days, though I wouldn't be surprised if an exception were chunks of ice that used to be birds. Of course the computer is already pretty much frozen, but not because of the cold. I probably just had too many tabs open at once.
In short, winter is definitely here. I turned on the inefficient heater in the den for a while just to take the miserable chill off of the room, and I've got the thermostat for the rest of the house set to 66 degrees after having it at 64 most of the day. This would be a good night to have something baked for dinner, but I don't feel like baking anything. I've been feeling a bit queasy for the last couple of hours. It's probably something I didn't eat. Like elf.
The schedules of the store ads are still holiday catawampus, and I won't know until tomorrow all of the stuff that is going to be cheap, so if there are any unmissable Friday specials I'll have to make my list and go shopping on the same day. As a rule I don't do that. I like the list to settle for a couple of days before shopping, in case I remember something else I need, or in case I have second thoughts about something on the list. I'll be very glad when the holidays and their disruptions are over.
The computer speakers that broke and then partly fixed themselves have broken again, so I think that tomorrow I'll definitely get the set K-mart had, if they haven't already been sold. I can't listen to music without bass. It sounds like a transistor radio playing in 1957, and when it comes to audio I'm much rather live in the present than in the past.
The keyboard is doing nothing to warm up my cold fingers, so I'm going to end this and go watch television with my hands wrapped around a cup of hot chocolate.
