Late Again

This afternoon I got so sleepy that not even the discomfort I felt from the sultriness of the day could keep me awake. I ended up sleeping until it was almost nightfall again, and hours later I still have that dopey sense of displacement that waking up that time of day always gives me.

I also missed out on about an hour of cooling because I was so late in opening the windows to let in the night air. Still, it was only 78 degrees indoors when I got the windows open so there was no call to turn on the air conditioner. Plus I'll probably be awake most of the night, and it's going to get cooler and cooler. I'll make up for that lost time.

And the gardenias smell so nice tonight. I'm going to give them some water because I want them to keep blooming as long as possible. The other plants will just have to do without.

Quiet

Today I had a day devoted mostly to quiet. There was a little bit of Internets time in the morning, and there will be a little bit of time devoted to cable now, but mostly I just sat around doing a bit of reading by natural light. I figured the electricity needed a rest. Coincidentally, the bill arrived this afternoon and it was close to forty bucks, which is about ten to fifteen too high for June. That would be from the fan running all night every night for the last few weeks, and the refrigerator running more than usual to throw off its excess heat, and several hours of air conditioning, plus me falling asleep in front of the television more and more often. I might have a few more quiet days with the electronics shut down, just to chip away a bit at next months bill. It was also pretty relaxing.

Now I'm going to heat something on the stove for a belated dinner, and I intend to turn the television off before I fall asleep tonight. To tell the truth, I'm not at all sure I can fall asleep without the television being on anymore, but I'm going to try.
