Nice, Of Course
Oct. 15th, 2015 07:44 pmWe got another very nice sunset this evening. The clouds that accumulated all afternoon and then brought vivid color to the sky also presage a cooling trend, and possible rain on Saturday. But after a cool weekend it is expected to start warming up again. So far this has been one of the warmest Octobers I can recall since moving here, and it looks as though it will continue to be so.
The mildness is delaying the onset of autumn color in the leaves, which require very chilly nights to achieve their full glory. Those leaves that aren't still green are merely turning brown instead of donning bright color. I'm saving on my heating bill (the furnace hasn't been on once yet this month) but the price is a duller landscape.
The cloudy sky has prevented me from seeing the waxing crescent moon this evening. The densest patches of cloud are in the west, right where the moon is (or was— it might have settled behind the trees already.) Ah, well, I'll probably get to see it Sunday, or Monday at the latest. No storms are on the schedule after one currently approaching, so odds are I'll be getting to see the moon just about every night for the rest of the month.
Last night I fell asleep even earlier than I had the night before, and I got no nap today, so sleep is already threatening. I missed most of the stuff I intended to watch on television last night, and I'm hoping that won't happen again tonight. English people murder one another on PBS on Thursdays, and I hate to miss that. In fact I believe the carnage begins at eight o'clock, so I'd better shut this machine down and start warming up that can of chili I intend to have for dinner. But first a few minutes sniffing the fresh October air in the back yard.
