I missed both of December's meteor showers, the Gemenids which peaked on December 12-13, and the Ursids which peaked on 22-23, but a few minutes ago I saw a bright meteor streak across Orion's feet. It was probably an outlier of the Ursids. I won't be hanging out outside looking for more, not only because there are unlikely to be any at this late date, but because it's so cold out. Why do the best meteor showers come in winter? It would be nice to spend a winter in Australia so I could watch them in comfort for once.

My sleep schedule has gone weird again, and since last night instead of sleeping I've just had four naps of varied lengths. I'm not sure how long this will be going on, but it's been very disorienting. I keep thinking it's later than it is each time I wake up. Also I just remembered that I put some laundry in the dryer between two of the naps and still haven't taken it out. Oh, and now I've missed Tuesday.

Maybe I'm finally turning into a cat. I've been sort of expecting that to happen eventually. I'm pretty sure Portia has been purring transformative messages into my ears as I sleep. Joke will be on her when she finds out that I can't feed her anymore because it's my human brain that buys the cat food.

Although the day was sunny it remained chilly, and tonight the temperature is already down to 33 degrees. The feral cats' water bowls will undoubtedly freeze again, as they did last night and the night before, and as they will again tomorrow night and Friday. It will remain mostly clear, though, so there's no chance of snow. The next rain is expected early next week, but again the storm will bring warmer temperatures and snow will fall only at higher elevations.

I'm still thinking about raking the remaining leaves. The mulberry leaves in the front yard have withered away and won't be difficult to deal with. The oak leaves in the back yard don't wither, as their water content is low to begin with, but there are fewer of them on the lawn, so they won't be a problem either. I might get them raked on Saturday, which will be a bit warmer. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be even colder than today was, and I'm sure won't want to be going outside for very long.

There are some thin clouds tonight, so many of the brighter stars are dimmed and the lesser stars are hidden. It should clear up a bit later, but I won't be going out to watch the stars reappear. It's just too toe-numbing out there. Maybe I need thicker socks. But then if I get thicker socks I'd probably need bigger shoes as well, so maybe I'll just stay in the house until spring. I'm paying for all the gas the furnace uses anyway, so I might as well get the most out of it.

I've been thinking about hamburgers all day. I don't make very good hamburgers, and none of the restaurants in town are very good either, and they are all pretty pricey. What I'd like to do is be able to teleport to Los Angeles and get one from Fatburger, if it still exists. Or even better to teleport and time travel to Manhattan Beach in the 1950s, to that little diner on Highland Avenue we went to a few times. Those were great hamburgers. I know that place doesn't exist anymore.

But then neither do I. I've turned into somebody else, who sits around grazing through some other me's memories. Maybe someday I'll turn into yet another self who knows where to find a good hamburger. Until then I guess I'll just have to make due with a can of chili beans.
