Delay

This morning I found half a dozen redworms crawling about on my soggy back porch. I was very careful not to step on them whenever I went out. There are only three of them left this evening. I'm thinking either the other three made it off the porch or they got harvested by birds, though I haven't seen any birds out there. I have no idea how the worms got onto the porch to begin with, or why, but this isn't the first time such a thing has happened during a rain storm. Maybe they just get flooded out of their burrows and take refuge on the less-wet cement.

I woke up at four o'clock this morning after sleeping no more than four hours, and haven't been back to sleep yet. I've been drinking tea to stay awake, and hope that I can remain so until after midnight. I came across an article on the Internets that said recent research has indicated that there is likely a connection between sleep disorders and the later onset of memory disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer's, but I've already forgotten the details of it. I guess I need a nap.

The nephew has promised money for sure tomorrow. The long-delayed repayment would be nice to get this week, as the stores have some pretty decent bargains, but I won't be holding my breath. Still, thirtieth time may be a charm. Hope springs eternal and all that, but maybe not as eternal as his delays.

And even if I do get the money, I'm not sure what I'll be able to wear to go shopping. The washing machine is still broken and I've got no way of getting to the laundromat, and I have no clean pants that fit. I do have pants that are only a little bit loose, but I no longer have a belt, so while walking around the stores I'd probably have to spend a whole lot of time hiking them up as they repeatedly slipped down. Very distracting.

Because I've been awake so long I intend to have dinner early. If I don't get it soon I might fall asleep without eating, and then wake up hungry in the middle of the night, when I definitely won't feel like cooking. I always end up eating popcorn when that happens, and I'd rather save my popcorn for snacking.

Soup and fresh cornbread now, I think.

This is a very chilly storm.
