Reset Forty-One, Day Fifteen
Jun. 8th, 2022 03:27 amIt appears that Tuesday happened, and it was unpleasantly warm, but I recall little else about it. There was a long, fretful waking, followed by a blankness that was probably filled with Internet, and then at some point lasting much longer than a point should I didn't get around to making dinner, and at last I just ate some peanut butter on buttered crackers. Then I was reminded by an LJ post that I had cherries which have been sitting forgotten in my refrigerator for two weeks, so I dug those out and had a couple dozen for dessert. Good times.
Both of my elbows are sore and I have no idea why. I'm pretty sure I haven't been wrestling or playing football or tennis. But then my memory has gotten so bad I can't be absolutely certain. I do know there is good news, which is that the four days of triple digit highs in the forecast have been reduced to two, and the highest one is down from 107 to 103. Hooray? It's still hell, but no longer hell with jalapenos.
The mini-metropolis gets weirder in hot weather. I just went outside and sat in the backyard for a few minutes, and while I was there the bike path over the back fence, which is usually deserted this time of night (unless homeless people are camping there) was visited in a very short period by four passersby. First I heard a bicycle with a slightly squeaky wheel, ridden by someone with a boom box of some sort, and a short way behind it a small dog emitting high-pitched barks every couple of seconds, apparently trying to catch the bicyclist.
The barking had not yet faded entirely when I heard a series of squishy clumps passing by, which made me picture a zombie with a very long stride. Perhaps thirty seconds after that I heard a slow motorbike, probably ridden by two people, as a woman's voice was saying something about her house being right ahead and then the motor stopped a hundred feet or so down the path. I listened a bit longer, but heard no more. I kept thinking there's a story here, but I have no idea what it is, and that's probably a good thing because it's clearly a crazy one.
I was going to take a shower, but it's getting too late, so I guess I'll try to get some sleep instead. I have made arrangements to have a few items picked up from the store this afternoon, and have a couple of bills to make out, and am getting more confused by the minute. Perhaps today will be the day I get committed to an institution. I hope it's air conditioned.
