Tuesday brought more split shift sleep, with a few hours in the morning and a few more in the afternoon. Following the afternoon nap there was a sandwich for dinner, and then I watered the plants in the back yard. The grapes are getting bigger but still not yet ripe. The blossoms on the pokeweed are vanishing, but the berries are not yet appearing. This year the blossoms attracted very few butterflies, which was rather disappointing. Butterflies are one of the reasons I allow the pokeweed to take over so much of the tiny yard. I fear that the oddly mild early winter might have caused the larvae to emerge too soon and the subsequent colder weather killed them off. For whatever reason, they have been scarce, and I miss them.

For the last couple of hours I've been doing some ill-advised snacking. Thanks to my shopping errors there are extra donuts to get rid of before they go stale, and after eating one of them I had a craving for ice cream, so I ate the last third of a carton of Ben and Jerry's pistachio I've been working on, and then to offset the abundance of sweetness I started eating some almonds with spicy flavorings, and the combination has my aging digestive system a bit discombobulated. I've also had to wash the various edibles down with quite a bit of sparkling water, from which sloshiness has resulted. Also, burps.

Today the temperature starts climbing again, and early next week there will be five days with triple digit highs. Three more such days are on tap for the subsequent week. July is displeasing me. It needs to do something to redeem itself. Those grapes better be damned good this year.
