Reset Forty-Two, Day Eleven
Jul. 13th, 2022 06:10 amI slept the middle out of Tuesday and didn't get up until after four o'clock in the afternoon. Once again, as is so often the case these days, I woke up very sad, and had to find distraction quickly. Long ago I got a newspaper every day, but now all I have is Idernet. Idernet does have music, of course, not just news and cartoons, so I found some music (and some cartoons) to diminish the sadness. It sort of worked.
For dinner I made both a sandwich (on one slice of bread) and a moderate sized serving of cheesy fried potatoes. It was quite enough for a hot day. I'm still out of vegetables, but still have some cherries, which made a nice desert some time later. The cherries have been quite good this year. Fruit is one of the compensations of summer. When I was a kid, one of my friends had a back fence neighbor with a loquat tree that overhung my friend's yard. One of my favorite memories from that time was climbing the ladder onto the roof of his garage and sitting up there picking ripe loquats from that tree and eating them, still warm from the sun. I don't expect I'll ever have an experience quite like that again.
Today is supposed to be a trough in the heat wave. It will only get up to 97 degrees. Everything else in the forecast looks quite hellish. Another peak of 105 is due Saturday. I'm glad I don't have to go out for anything, and I hope nothing happens to change that. I suspect I'm spending a small fortune on air conditioning this year, but it's worth it. Oh, and I sampled one of the grapes today. They are still sour, but I think they might be ripe in about a week, maybe a little more. I'm looing forward to them, though I don't think they'll stop me from waking up sad.
