The most (well, only) interesting thing to happen Thursday was a visit from a raven. It perched atop a utility pole across the bike path from my back yard and croaked a few times. I said hello, and asked if it wanted to perch on my shoulder, but apparently it wasn't interested in me, and after a short time it flew away. I've missed it ever since. I put five raw shelled almonds on the chair in the backyard, in hopes that the bird might return, but it never did, and the uneaten almonds are still there. Why do ravens never talk to me? What am I, not chopped liver? Oh, right.

Today is supposed to be the peak of a mini-heatwave, with a high of 92. The night will drop to 59. A diurnal range of 33 degrees strikes me as extravagant. But weather ignores me, just as ravens do, no matter how much attention I pay. Nature takes no requests.

Made some Spanish rice (from a mix) with olives for dinner, but overcooked it a bit. There is a lot left over, so Ill be having more, and it will get a bit more overcooked each time I reheat it. By the end, it could be rice paste. It didn't help that I wasn't feeling too good today anyway. I don't even want a bedtime snack, except for my usual square of Belgian chocolate. If I'm ever too sick to eat chocolate, just bury me, because there's no longer any reason for me to live.

Going out for one more sniff of cool night air before I go to bed. It's going to be hot when I wake up. I don't expect to feel any better today.
