The Sacramento area is under a heavy fog advisory this morning. We've got some fog here in the mini-metropolis as well, but not as heavy as the last time we had it. It's never as thick here as it is farther down the valley. Wednesday was the winter solstice, so it's definitely the time of year for fog, but we haven't had much of it the last few years. I remember many sunny winter days in Paradise looking out over the white mass of clouds shrouding the valley, with the Sutter Buttes sticking up like an island from a frothy white sea. A short drive down the mountain would take you into the gray fog, sometimes so dense that the road would be barely visible a hundred feet ahead. I doubt we'll see anything like that today though.

I don't really remember what we saw Wednesday, but I did sleep through whatever a lot of it was. My evening naps seem to have settled down to about two or three hours, after which I wake up to have a second breakfast followed by a midnight supper, and then a rather placid remainder of the night. About the only surprises are which parts of my body are going to be most uncomfortable. Wednesday it was my feet, so far this morning it seems to be back to my right hip. There's no telling what it will be when I wake up this afternoon.

Much of the last few hours I've spent listening to a piece of music actually new to me, even though it comes from a movie released in the 1980s. Somehow I missed that movie, which was called The Snowman. The song is called Walking In the Air, and this version is by the acapella group Chanticleer, which lends the piece a rather medieval and Christmassy air. Somebody linked to the video on Farcebook, and I just got hooked. It goes very nicely with our fog.
