My brain hamster is being hyper again. Thursday I got even less sleep than usual, but haven't felt properly tired since, though I have been yawning quite a bit. That hamster just won't slow down. Partly due to my more-unfocused-than-usual state I didn't feel like fixing dinner, and ended up eating half a bag of Bugles and a can of beer instead. I'm sure I'll regret that, but it's too late to do anything about it now.

I do have one last frozen tamale I'm thinking about popping into the microwave, though that would hardly qualify as a meal. I can't think of a single thing I have on hand that I could eat with it. If I had a good supply of ramen bowls I'd just fix one of those instead of the tamale, but I've gotten very low on them. The stores just don't keep a decent stock on the shelves anymore, and the few they do have have gotten very expensive.

It's been hot, of course, and is still unpleasantly warm tonight. Nocturnal lows are supposed to start inching back down to the upper sixties soon, but daily highs will remain in triple digits for more than another week. It has been rather cloudy for the last couple of days, and overnight Wednesday, lightning strikes started eight new fires, though most of those have been contained. Only one very large, older fire is still burning, far north of here, now at about 60,000 acres, and is 85% contained.

Two medium sized older fires are burning, one from an earlier lightning storm which has burned about 26,000 acres and is only 33% contained, but that one is way over on the other side of the coast range, and a smaller fire of less than 8,000 acres up near the northern edge of the state is now 90% contained. All these fires seem rather puny in comparison to what we had last year, but fire season is far from over, so it could get bad again very fast. At least the mini-metropolis hasn't gotten very much smoke this year.

Okay, I ate the tamale and feel a bit better. I might even get to sleep before dawn today. I found a lovely piece of music that I can use to help calm my hamster brain down. It's a piano and violin duet premiered in 1929, by the African-American composer Florence Price, and it is truly delightful. Well worth a listen, especially if you are feeling somewhat stressed.
