Reset Forty-Seven, Day Fifty-Four
Jan. 22nd, 2023 09:08 amOh, muddle. Another of those near-normal sleep periods, from about eleven o'clock Saturday evening until five o'clock this morning. Anything close to but not quite normal leaves me disoriented. When I fired up the computer a headline brought news of a mass shooting in Monterey Park, the Los Angeles suburb just west of the one I where I lived the first half (actually still a little bit more) of my life. It was at a lunar new year event (the neighborhood is now predominantly east Asian) in a dance club that, after I tracked the down, turns out to be in part of a building that was for many decades a hardware store. I was in that building several times in those days, and now ten people have been killed on or near a spot where I once walked, and it's the closest I've been been to one of these events. It's kind of weird.
The mini-metropolis hasn't had any mass shootings yet, though I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Today it's supposed to have sunshine and wind, though so far only the former has shown up. I'm eating a bowl of popcorn, looking at supermarket ads so I can put together a shopping list. I'm out of stuff again and need to arrange a fetching of groceries, hopefully by tomorrow. I can't go out myself as I still haven't ordered a new pair of pants to cover my lately expanded bum. It's quite disappointing that I find online shopping even more tedious than actual shopping. Add that to the list of things I learned late in life.
I wonder if I could get back to sleep for a while? Probably not.
