Reset Forty-Eight, Day Seventy-Eight
May. 12th, 2023 04:06 amMy Wednesday evening nap ended abruptly when I was awakened by a terrible leg cramp. This was probably the worst one I've ever had, and it is still interfering with my ability to walk. I hobble about, slowly, clinging to various bits of furniture, kitchen and bathroom counters, and when nothing else is available, keeping my hand on the wall, so there will be at least one direction in which I won't fall if my leg gives out. I had to spend quite a bit of time using it, as whenever I got off of it for too long it would threaten to cramp up again. I've been taking medication for it (and drinking a lot of water, as dehydration can greatly aggravate cramping) but I'm not sure I'll find it easy to sleep. It's still very sore.
With my leg acting up I didn't feel like cooking anything for dinner. I didn't even make a sandwich. I might microwave some ramen at some point, but I'm also considering fixing a package of macaroni and cheese. There isn't much that appeals to me, but macaroni is sufficiently bland that I can eat it just about anytime. The main problem with it is that I usually eat the entire batch, and the packages a bit too big for a reasonable meal for one person.
Wednesday afternoon we got an earthquake. The epicenter was some fifty miles from here, but it was quite noticeable, lasting for several seconds. It was in Plumas County, around Lake Almanor, in a region extensively burned by fires two years ago. The 5.5 shake did some structural damage in the towns around the lake, and a lot of stuff got knocked off of shelves, but so far no reports of injuries. I actually forgot about it, until a few minutes ago when I felt a good-sized aftershock, which turned out to be a 5.2 on the moment-magnitude scale. Lake Almanor is not too far from Mount Lassen, the most recently active (1914-1921) volcano in California. Earthquake activity in the region is sometime related to volcanic activity, but I don't think the odds are high that we'll be getting an eruption anytime soon.
What with the earthquake and the leg cramps I didn't get anything done Wednesday, and the heat didn't help. I'll try to do better today. But no guarantees. It's supposed to hit 92 degrees today. Too damn hot/
