Reset Forty-Nine, Day Twenty-Seven
Jun. 20th, 2023 03:31 amThe isolated mild day was nice, though I slept through most of it. That seems to be my new normal. I also made a decent dinner using both microwave and stove top, and it wasn't too much and so far hasn't brought on any gastric distress. We did get another mini-storm just about sunset, though I didn't hear any thunder with it. There was just some rattling of raindrops against the metal parts of the fake fireplace and range vents. It didn't last long, and probably did nothing for the plants. I will have to be watering them frequently from here on out.
An online sale at J.C. Penney's led me to make some more purchases. They were no entirely impulsive, as my recent shopping spree brought me many warm flannel shirts for chilly weather, but only one lightweight warm weather outer shirt. This will now be rectified, as I have eight on the way. After I had done the checkout I went to my email inbox to see the order confirmation email, and found that a short time earlier I had gotten another email giving me an additional 20% off, but it was of course too late to use it.
This rather pissed me off. I was already annoyed because Penney's web site is a massive pain in the ass to use, and it takes far longer to find stuff and order it than it ought to, and now they virtually mock me for failing to find a cost-saving hoop they sent me to jump through? This is not the way to endear your business to customers. It's no wonder the company is struggling. Simply lighting a fire under the behinds of their IT team would probably boost their profits considerably. I was on the verge of saying screw the whole thing before I found a few items I thought worth buying and worth the trouble of continuing to put up with the crappy web site. I suspect that far than a few potential customers just give up without buying because of that crappy website.
Anyway, their problem and their mistake now. They won't be getting a glowing review from me, even if the shirts themselves turn out to be great. I'll probably just stick to Kohl's when I need clothes in the future. In the meantime, I have to keep an eye and an ear open Friday, when the first seven items are scheduled to arrive, and Monday when number eight should get here. There have been reports of porch pirates in the area of late. I'd hate to lose stuff I really need, and I'd hate even more to have to go shopping again to replace it.
It's going to get warmer today, but still won't it eighty. After today there won't be a high below eighty for two weeks, and probably for two months, and more. Summer is here, both effectively and officially, on Wednesday. But while I'm sweltering under that days high of 87 I'll just keep reminding myself that much of Texas will be over 100 that day, and lucky to drop into the 70s by night while we'll be enjoying a nocturnal low of 57. The Central Valley bites in summer, but some places can get so much worse.
Meanwhile, here's a nice song about rain from Dan Fogelberg.
