Reset Forty-Nine, Day Forty-Two
Jul. 5th, 2023 07:39 amTuesday I remembered to take the wheelie bin out to the street for the delayed pickup, but later I took my evening nap and was astonished when explosions began and I woke up. I forgot what day it was less than an hour after I'd remembered. Dementia is weird.
Being careful about the potential for acid reflux, I ate only an artichoke for lunch/dinner Tuesday. Well, an artichoke and a lot of butter. Well, and artichoke, a lot of butter, and a bottle of Guinness. It actually made a very pleasant meal, and was easy enough to fix, an I think I'd have it more often if artichokes weren't so damned expensive. I always feel extravagant when I eat them, unless there's been a sale.
Speaking of sales, I planned a bad time to get groceries from Safeway (this Friday), as they have next to nothing I'd consider a bargain this week. Last week they had several things, but the timing was wrong. There will probably be good stuff next week too, when it will be too late. I'll just have to make the best of it I guess. I just wish they had some fruits other than berries on sale. I'm not a huge fan of berries.
The apartment cooled off a bit better overnight than it had recently, and the next couple of nights will be even cooler. We must take advantage of this while we may. The latest forecast has triple digit highs returning on the eleventh, and then staying for at least nine straight days. The nights will be hotter, too. Our season in hell is truly here. The only thing that could make it worse would be smoke from wildfires. But hush, I shouldn't say it. Don't want to tempt fate.
But today might not be too bad. Only 94. And I can't believe I just called 94 not too bad. But compared to last week? Yeah, not too bad. And I hope to sleep through most of it anyway.
