Reset Forty-Nine, Day Fifty-Four
Jul. 17th, 2023 06:03 amSunday evening it got a bit cloudy, and the clouds have held the heat in all night, like the lid on a pan. There was a whole bunch of sleeping Sunday, and I don't remember much else, other than how awful the heat was when I went out just before nightfall to give the backyard plants some extra water. I don't know if it was the heat or not, but the pokeweed close to the building collapsed, and though it is still alive it will no longer be providing afternoon shade to my back window. It won't make pretty dancing patterns on the blinds when stirred by the breezes anymore either. Another thing to be sad about.
Today is supposed to be about four degrees cooler (well, less torrid than Sunday was, and the ight is supposed to be even better, dropping below 70. IN fact we get three nights in the sixties this week, and two> days that will only reach 99, before we go back to triple digit highs and nights with lows in the 70s for the rest of the month. I should save my tears though. I don't think my body can afford to lose any more water.
Three's a very noisy helicopter flying over the neighborhood right now. I hope it isn't one of the firefighting helicopters. We've been lucky so far this year. California has only lost about 10,000 acres to wildfires so far this year, and most of that has been in Riverside county, in the south. It's morning again, and I only had about a four hour nap last time I slept, and that ended about five hours ago. I'm going to knock the place down to about 75 degrees and see if I can sleep some more.
