Reset Forty-Nine, Day Eighty-Eight
Aug. 20th, 2023 08:18 amA less horrendously hot Saturday allowed some recovery, but not much. A meal still seemed excessive so I snacked through afternoon and evening, until sleep became essential late that evening. A few hours later I woke up hungry enough to microwave a package of teriyaki noodles. Those, alas, triggered acid reflux, which is why I am still awake, staying upright because it is worse when I lie down. I've taken antacid and hope it subsides soon, because I'm tired again. But I don't want to wake up suffocating on stomach acid, as that was one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had.
In the meantime I'm sitting here listening to Snow Patrol and occasionally checking beach webcams from Southern California. The storm should be arriving there soon. Our local forecast has been altered to predict a welcome high of 77 degrees Monday, with a 91% chance of rain. We are way out on the edge of the storm's predicted path, but I guess it has a big reach. Significant amounts of rain in August is something I've never experienced, having spent my entire life in California. I'm a bit regretful I'm not still in Los Angeles, where it is sure to be much more intense than it could be here. Of course I should be careful what I wish for. The rare big spring storm in 2019 flooded my apartment here. I definitely don't want to have to deal with anything like that again.
