Fixing a large dinner Tuesday night was so exhausting that by the time it was done I feared I'd be too tired to eat it, but I managed about half before sticking the leftovers in storage containers and going to bed. That was just after midnight, and I then slept for about five hours, then woolgathered and catnapped another 90 minutes or so before finally feeling energetic enough to actually get up and do things. Among the things I did was drink some coffee, so now I'm wired, but feeling tired again. That never works out well, and I don't know why I did it, other than the fact that I get stupider as I get older.

There was fairly persistent rain Tuesday, but that has ended and today is just mostly cloudy. Most of the rain that was in the long range forecast yesterday is gone, so January might be dryer than expected, or maybe not. Forecasts can be as variable as the weather itself, so it could change back by tomorrow.

Tuesday I finally got around to watching a video of the Rose Parade. It was very clear and sunny in Pasadena, and I was happy to get a couple of glimpses of the mountains. I'm quite sure now that I'll never see them in person again, which added an extra layer of sadness to the video. Not even the song of the mockingbird I hear chirping through the chill, gray noon of the mini-metropolis can assuage that.

Oh, it looks as though the sun is trying to come out. Good luck trying to pierce this veil, old man. It could take you all afternoon. But maybe we'll get to see a bit of color with sunset today. It would be more cheering than the few flashes of blue the sky has briefly shown today, even though followed by the long quotidian dark of winter.
