Tuesday was the day I finally had to break down and turn on the air conditioner. It was the attempted evening nap that finished me off. I dozed fitfully for a while, but was to miserable to fall entirely asleep. I got up and looked at the thermometer, and it said 83 degrees. I set the thermostat to eighty and flopped down on the bed and let the cool air from the vent wash over me. That was just after eight o'clock, and then I slept until half past midnight. I can't say I was really comfortable, but at least I was not utterly miserable.
Since then, the fan and open windows have gotten the apartment down to a not-so-cool 76. The high today is to be 104, so the air conditioner will undoubtedly be getting more use. This is the first of a trio of triple digit days, while another trio will be coming early next week, and the actual summer solstice is still more than two weeks off. I ate a sandwich Tuesday afternoon, and no more than a microwaved ramen bowl after I got up. I have stuff to cook in the refrigerator, but I have no idea when I'll feel like fixing it, let alone eating it. I wonder what it feels like six feet under the ground right now? Probably cooler than it is in here.
