Sitting in the heat in the middle of the night again, barely able to keep my eyes open. The air conditioner ran quite a bit Thursday, and once again failed to do much good. Most of the lights are off now, and the darkness is soporific and mysterious. It lures me to sleep and to dreams I probably won't remember. As the solstice approaches, dawns are coming earlier, and insufficient nocturnal hours remain to cool things off.
Last night I made the mistake of attempting a large dinner, and it did not turn out well, nor was I sufficiently hungry to finish eating it. There will be unpleasant leftovers. It's a good thing the nights are getting cooler again for a while. My appetite for cooked things might return. For now, all I really want to eat is fresh cherries. I'll be able to replenish my supply Monday. They are very good this year, and the best compensation I've found for the wretched weather.

It's a fiftieth anniversary remastering of Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig In the Sky," with the amazing, improvised, wordless vocal by Clare Torry, for which she has finally received credit. It's one of the most astonishing recordings of an astonishing decade.
