Reset Fifty, Day Thirty-Two
Aug. 12th, 2024 06:17 amThe slight cooling Sunday brought a slight improvement in my mood, though I still spent much of the day in a neat-comatose state. More frequent and longer naps ate up much of it, and the night was much the same. I slept trough the hours when the meteor shower was to be at its peak, but since it is so unlikely to see anything but the rare brightest meteors from a place with excessive light like this I can't consider that a great loss. I figure I just missed a lot of disappointment.
Today there is to be a shopping run, and I need to spend time making purchases online. Not my favorite activity. I'm hoping the stuff I want won't be sold out by the time I order it, as my niece can't pick it up until fairly late in the day. There is not very much to get this week in any case. It adds an extra level of sadness to the standard sadness of shopping. But at the moment I'm feeling a bit better because the air coming in the open window with the morning bird calls is the coolest I've felt in a long time.
There is no trace of smoke detectable by my nose in that cool air. The Park Fire, now the fourth largest in California history, has been holding fairly steady at a bit under 430,000 acres for the last couple of days, and containment has inched up to 37%. The cooler week ahead could help. We're not even halfway though August, though, and things could get way worse again, especially if we get a dry, windy autumn. For the moment, it doesn't feel like a crisis. Good. That's one less.
When I'm lying in bed woolgathering I think I have more interesting thoughts than I do when I sit at the computer typing. That always leaves me a bit disappointed in myself. Its like I'm wallowing in trivialities when I could be publicly making a fool of myself with pseudo profundities. I can't decide if I should be chagrined by, or grateful to, my crappy memory. What a life, huh?
