51/21: Poor Sleep
Oct. 3rd, 2024 09:44 amWednesday I stayed up too late and had a hard time getting to sleep. Had I gone to bed at midnight it probably would have been fine, but I got distracted by something and ended up on the Idernet until three in the morning, and got overtired, so didn't actually get to sleep until after four. Waking up in the chill morning daylight around eight o'clock today reminded me of going to school when I was a kid, and that made me sad, both because of the reminder that I didn't like getting up for school and the reminder that I'll never feel that good again. The rumble of morning traffic on the nearby freeway also made me sad, both because there was a time, long ago, when I found that sound full of promise, and because I now find it simply irritating.
The return to sultry weather after those several comparatively mild days has been stressful. The heat will continue, with the worst days being triple digit highs on Saturday and Sunday, but there will be gradual cooling after that until a week from Friday the high will be only 76, and there will be a 23% chance of rain. The utility company sent me a notification that the climate credit on my October bill will be 55 bucks and change, and since my September bill was only a bit over 65, a zero dollars bill is within striking distance, if it stays fairly cool for the next couple of weeks after this hot spell, and I'm careful. I hate when a bill is something like three bucks or even less and I have to waste a stamp and a check on it (I know— stamps, checks? What am I, a Neanderthal? Yup, I guess so.)
It still feels weird being awake this time of day. Since I only slept about four hours last night I'll probably have a long nap again this afternoon. I guess it's okay. Being inactive I don't get quite as hot, and the air conditioner probably runs a bit less. Gotta keep that bill below 55 bucks if I can.
