51/23: Forgetful
Oct. 5th, 2024 01:49 pmThe evenings following these sultry days have been cooling decently, so I can easily get the apartment ready for the following day. All I have to do is remember to open the windows and sometimes turn on the fan when the evening cools enough, and then close the windows and turn off the fan when the morning gets too warm. And there's the problem. Friday I remembered to open the windows, and it was cool enough outside that the fan wasn't needed, so that even though I slept until nine o'clock this morning the apartment had gotten down to a pleasantish 73 degrees, giving me a nice head start on the expected high of 97, but I forgot to close the windows until after eleven o'clock, by which time it had gotten up to 75 in here. One of the perils of being the stupid old guy. The air conditioner will probably come on an hour earlier this evening, and stay on an hour or so longer than it otherwise would have.
Another weather-related complaint is that the 73-degree day with the 24% chance of rain has vanished from the forecast, and after Monday's predicted 100 it is all eighties and nineties through the 19th. At the rate this month is going, Halloween could end up reeking of goblin sweat. Even worse, November could bring its winds to an utterly dry landscape, and that's when we get those really bad wildfires that burn entire towns.
Damn, I'm nodding off already and I've only been up for less than five hours. Plus I've had tea and coffee. Getting old is tedious.
