Wednesday night I put a second blanket on the bed for the first time in months. I think I slept a bit better, though I was still awake for a couple of hours perusing the inner and outer darknesses. There was still some stomach discomfort, though less than the previous two nights. It might be that not eating as close to bedtime is helping a bit. I finally got up shortly before sunrise, and have had a quiet morning since. The wind has died down, and today will turn mild, as will Friday, with cooling after that and a near certainty of rain on Monday. It will be the first respectable rainstorm of the season, with a chilly high of 60 degrees. By mid-month, we will be getting highs in the fifties. My autumn hoodies are ready.

Later today I'll see about arranging for a grocery pickup Friday. I look forward to having donuts again (they'd better be in stock this time.) The Pillsbury cinnamon rolls were a nice change for a couple of days, but they go stale pretty fast. I might get a couple of persimmons too (Fuyus.) They are on sale this week, though still rather expensive, but they taste like fall, and I want something that tastes like fall. Popcorn tastes like fall too, and I might made some for brunch, or whatever it is I eat next. Even though it's supposed to get up to 71 this afternoon it's still chilly right now. I don't have the patience to make pancakes or waffles, which require a lot of standing at the stove, which my feet (and joints and muscles) don't love.

YouTube has been sort of behaving itself again, so I've been listening to some stuff and came across this country-pop crossover hit I remember from 1950, which was the year my dad took off the wooden blocks he'd affixed to my tricycle pedals so my feet could reach them when I was four. I remember riding in circles underneath his improvised canvas carport one rainy morning while this song by Kay Starr and Tennessee Ernie Ford played on the radio. Odd, how a few trivial little moments will stick in your memory when everything around them has long since gone blank.
