Apr. 19th, 2025 08:56 pmFriday I got groceries fetched, but the store was out of my donuts, so there are only substitute donuts for now. My niece will attempt to find some at another store at some point so I won't have to be without them for two entire weeks, until the next shopping day. Things like this were less of an inconvenience back when I was able to get out and fetch things myself. A bus ride to one market or another would be sufficient to fill a gap. Now that I have barely enough energy to get to the mailbox at the end of my driveway, arrangements must be tediously made.
Speaking of mailbox, today it had my new utility bill, and as I'd expected no payment is due thanks to California's climate credit program. In fact the bill says my credit is over eighty bucks, but it's not clear to me if that is before or after this month's bill. It it's after, then it's fairly certain I'll have no payment due in May either, and there would likely be some left to partly cover the bill for June. If nothing else comes up I could afford to indulge myself with some luxury item.
Of course it will depend on the weather. Although most of the rest of this month will have highs in the eighties, the nights will continue to cool into the fifties, so I should be able to keep the apartment cool enough to avoid air conditioner use. It that prevails through the first half of May I should be in good shape to avoid any utility bill until June. After that who knows? It's more likely to be another sultry year than a cooler one, as that's the pattern here. Weather is more likely to repeat from one year to the next than to change. I've pretty much resigned myself to a hot summer. I just hope we can avoid a smoky one.
