52/192-193: Swelter
Aug. 23rd, 2025 02:35 amSo the last couple of days have been among the most hellish this benighted valley has ever visited upon me. I've used goatloads of electricity for air conditioning just to keep the place barely tolerable. As much time as possible I've spent asleep, but with such discomfort prevailing, sleep isn't easy. I've also endured some horrendous leg cramps, perhaps due to dehydration.
The semi-good news is that tonight and tomorrow night will be the warmest of the current cycle (lows of 73), and not only the nights but the days will moderate starting Monday, though we won't get anything I'd consider a cool night until Wednesday. The rest of August will remain fairly hot, but the first week of September will bring a cooling trend, with highs dropping from the nineties into the mere eighties. So if I make it through the next few days, I will have more pleasant weather in which to die.
Friday I got groceries, with not too many substitutions, and now have adequate donut supplies for the remainder of the month. Other stuff I'm not so sure. My mind grows ever more muddled, and I often find I've failed to buy some essential item and must attempt to engage my feeble brain in improvisation to fill the gaps. Of course I won't find out what I lack until I need it, so there's probably no point in borrowing against trouble that is yet to come. In fact I should probably just try to sleep. The fan has probably gotten it down to about 78 in here. It won't get much lower, if it gets lower at all. But get through the next few days and summer could be out of hot crap to throw at me. So glad August is winding down.
