Reset Forty-Seven, Day Thirty
Dec. 29th, 2022 06:01 amWednesday morning I had trouble getting to sleep, so I got up and soon had trouble staying awake. I ended up having three naps of two to three hours each, and Doing very little in between them. There were lunch pancakes and, after the last nap, a dinner, and since sometime around midnight the sound of rain. It is the first of three days of rain, and flood warnings are in effect for parts of the region.
The rain is surprisingly warm for the time of year, thanks to the La Nina condition in the Pacific. That's what generates the atmospheric rivers which can bring sudden prolonged downpours. In 2019 one o them flooded this apartment, and I'd very much like not to go through anything like that again. I've got way more stuff sitting on the floor than I did then, including a lot of books I'd rather not have ruined, plus all my pandemic era shopping that won't fit in the apartment's diminutive cupboards.
So far the rain hasn't been intense, and it hasn't been windy like the last storm. I'm going to go to sleep again soon, and I hope the place doesn't flood while I'm asleep. Call me crazy, but the idea of waking up and putting my feet on a floor flooded with dirty, cold water somehow lacks appeal to me. It's bad enough that when I nod off in front of the computer I sometimes drool on the keyboard. My relationship with liquids grows ever more problematic. Please don't let me start wetting the bed.
