Reset Forty-Nine, Day Two Hundred Six

rejectomorphA thunderstorm in December? Are you shitting me, weather? Sprinkles began falling late Sunday afternoon, and by the time I began my after dinner nap around eight o'clock, it had become a steady drizzle. I fell asleep to the sound of drips in the downspout. Then around eleven o'clock I was awakened by a loud rumble. Thunder! and heavier rain. I'd planned on getting up sometime after midnight to order groceries online, as I've arranged for them to be picked up today, but I didn't want to be using the computer during an electrical storm. Power surges and whatnot (though in my imagination a nearby lightning strike can cause the accursed machine to blow up in my face.)
The storm must have continued for about two hours, as I woke a few times and it was never long before I heard that distant rumble. I don't think there were any lightning strikes nearby, as I didn't hear any more loud thunderclaps, and there must not have been any power surges as I didn't have to reset any digital clocks when I finally got up around half past two. I did however hear one very long peal of distant thunder, which must have been about one o'clock. It just went on and on for thirty seconds or so, and ended with a sudden increase in volume for a few seconds. I've never heard anything quite like that before.
Anyway, the thunder hasn't clapped once since I got up around half past two, and aside from a few brief surges the rain has been slow and steady. It's actually quite restful, and I think I might soon be induced to go back to bed, but I need to order those groceries first. I hope there aren't any hitches. I really have my heart set on some of the items they have on sale this week, including more PIE! Plus Guinness a buck less than usual (don't run out don't run out....)
