Reset Fifty, Day Sixteen

rejectomorphFriday the monotony was broken by a brief visit from one of the plumbers, who insulated the pipes recently installed in the kitchen cupboards. I asked him about the backyard faucet, and he said they had not been authorized to do anything about it yet. So far they only have instructions to connect two outdoor faucets, one for the front yard and one for the driveway/parking area. I suggested that a pipe might be run in a shallow trench along the north side of the building, to connect the outdoor faucets for the three back apartments, and he said it could be done, but the landlord would have to decide. We do need outdoor water, especially in my yard which has those three large bushes, and I'm not looking forward to having a pipe run through the ceiling of my kitchen and living area, so I'm currently hoping they decide to connect the faucets and do it through an underground pipe outside.
At the moment I'm waiting for the nephew to bring my groceries from Safeway. I got a seven o'clock time slot, bas he had said the earlier the better, but nine would have done fine. It's apt to be near ten before he gets there. But ordering so early did have the advantage of getting no substitutions. I've apparently gotten everything I ordered.
The fire has now expanded to over 300,000 acres, and is burning east of Red Bluff and will soon be burning east of Redding. It's heading toward a very scenic area southwest of Mount Lassen, which would be a significant loss. It is again at 0% containment. The cooler (slightly) weather might help with the containment, but it's going to heat up again in a couple of days and be as bad as it has been recently. Of course the highest hazard is not in summer but fall, especially in dry years. We're due for a dry fall, with an El Nino forming in the Pacific. This year is not looking great.
