51/14: Fingering the Bird
Sep. 26th, 2024 12:22 pmFelt mostly like crap again on Wednesday, but did manage to polish off a large plate of leftovers for dinner, making a bit more room in the refrigerator for stuff I might buy Friday. The meal left me fairly tired, and I was able to sleep a long time, not getting up until after dawn today. It has remained fairly cool all morning, and I haven't yet closed the windows. It wasn't necessary to turn on the fan. The quiet has been nice. All the gibberish in my brain doesn't need the mechanical competition.
Today I need to assemble a list of groceries to order tomorrow, then make arrangements to have them picked up. Making the list could prove more difficult than usual, as I've done something to the tip of my right index finger. Hurts like hell to hold the pen, and poking the keyboard is impossible. I'm having to use my middle finger, which is awkward and tedious. At least my keyboard is not aware that I'm doing something so rude to it. Indeed, it gives no indication that it even gives a fig.
Speaking of the bird, I'm hearing a mockingbird in my back yard. Since I rarely go out anymore, and seldom have the windows open in daytime all summer, it's been a long time since I've heard it. The presence of mockingbirds is one of the few things I genuinely enjoy about the mini-metropolis. They almost make up for the absence here of the woodpeckers I enjoyed watching and hearing in the mountains. I doubt I'll ever hear them again, unless perhaps I live long enough to go look at whatever they build on the lot I used to live on. There might be a woodpecker or two hanging around on that maybe someday day. Today I'll just enjoy the mockingbird.
