51/67: Disanticipation
Nov. 18th, 2024 10:48 amNo idea what I'm doing. It's all afternoony, and I recently spent about ten or twelve hours in bed, waking up several times but always going back to sleep after a while, even after the sun had come up and the light was leaking brightly into the room, with me thinking this is not my house, which of course it isn't. The rent is paid for another month though, so they probably won't kick me out, yet. A good thing, because it's about to rain a lot.
We are going to get one of those atmospheric rivers, and though it will be stronger in the northwest, California is likely to get a very intense rainstorm with chances for serious flooding in many places. Whether or not this place will be among them remains to be seen. The government agency which calculates such things says that 72% of the mini-metropolis is vulnerable to flooding in extreme weather events, and this one could be very extreme. It seems awfully early in the year for such a thing, but, as they say, things ain't what they used to be.
Friday is supposed to be my next shopping day, and I hope the storm doesn't interfere with it. MY shopping has been disrupted too much over the last couple of months as it is, and I'd like a break. I'd also like no power outages, thanks. It's very cold right now, and even though the impending storm is supposed to be full of warm tropical moisture, it will still be cold enough to make me miserable. Also almost all my foods need to be cooked, or at least heated, before being eaten. I ate way too many cold canned beans when I was a kid, and don't want to do it anymore.
Sadly, the relative warmth of the storm means we probably wont get much snow, if any, toward next year's water supply. So, a lot of inconvenience and considerable risk for not much gain. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, wet, wet, wet. Happy Thanksgiving.
