51/68: Frosty Ballzoff
Nov. 19th, 2024 06:11 amMonday evening I went to bed earlier than ever, then woke up before midnight still tired enough to go back to sleep until after three. Then there was some tossing and turning for an hour or so, as I didn't want to get out from under the warm covers, but I finally dragged my self into the morning chill, but mostly because my back began to ache so badly I got restless. Now I'm munching the third-to-last donut in my current package, leaving one for Wednesday and one for Thursday and none for Friday. I disapprove of weeks having fourteen days and donuts coming only twelve in a package. Somebody screwed up big time.
I can get fresh donuts Friday, but not until after I get up, so none for breakfast. And Safeway has disappointed me with its sale again this week. There's very little I want, and the prices aren't all that good either. A few years ago they routinely had eleven inch pumpkin pies on sale for five bucks at Thanksgiving, but this year they only have nine inch pies for 8.99, which is about 50% less pie for 80% more money. Of course I couldn't eat an eleven inch pumpkin pie anymore, but it's still annoying. I'd be paying more than twice as much to make myself sick for little more than half as long, even if I wasted a third of the pie.
There was a freeze warning in effect overnight and until ten o'clock this morning, but that will have been the last freeze until probably sometime in December. Tomorrow the warm rain starts, with one or two inches expected during the day and another one or two overnight. Then Thursday we get the same thing. Friday it should taper off to only one inch by day and less than half an inch overnight, but then showers are likely to continue through next Monday. I'm still a bit worried about getting flooded here, since it has happened before, and we don't get any actual sunshine until next Tuesday, so drying out could be a problem. One of my magazines was delivered Monday, and I'm hoping the other two arrive today, as they are almost certain to be ruined if they are delivered to that faulty mailbox during the rest of the week.
Right now I'm thinking about augmenting my donut breakfast. Monday I made a bowl of grits, but I don't feel like eating cereal two days in a row. I might microwave a ramen bowl. Something hot, to be sure. I've boosted the thermostat to 69 degrees, but it has failed to take the chill off the room. It already feels damp here, well ahead of the rain. It's going to be cloudy all day, so I'm not expecting to feel dry for quite some time, unless I get extravagant with the furnace. Which I probably won't. But I suspect there is hot tea in my future. There usually is on days like this.
