Someone in the neighborhood is getting a new roof. The smell of hot tar is hanging in the air. Add the scent of brine, and it would smell like Santa Barbara today. Mmm, Santa Barbara. One of the best Chinese dinners I ever had was at a little place on lower State Street. It probably isn't there anymore. That was long ago, and the yuppie population of that city has ballooned since then. The building probably houses a Starbuck's by now. I wonder if Starbuck's is aware that Paradise, even though its area now has a population of more than 40,000, is still without one of their establishments? Locals who wish to pay $5.00 for a cup of coffee must travel twelve miles down the mountain to Chico in order to partake of that luxury. But we do have a Little Caesar's Pizza franchise inside the K-Mart. I guess we'll get by.
