Sunni was a full-grown stray who turned up at our house in late 1987, so we don't know her breeding history. However, according to the Birman profile at the Cat Fancier's Association, Birmans are supposed to have long fur that doesn't mat. Sunni has been plagued with mats as long as we've had her. One year they were so bad, she had to be almost entirely shaved. She looked odd with only her head and tail and forelegs still furry.
Because of the mats, we think she is probably a Seal Point Himalayan (Persian-Siamese cross breed) like Spook. This is in spite of the fact that the Cat Fanciers Himalayan profile shows cats with flat little Persian faces, which Sunni doesn't have. Most likely, her breeding was not true (note the white paws), but she is an excellent cat, none the less.
