Very late at night, while the cat snores on my lap, I delight in the cold air that comes through the window. I let it flow in to drive away every trace of lingering heat radiating down from the attic. Night exorcises the demon of summer from the house. The chill is sufficient to make me shiver, but I enjoy it. In a few months, I will undoubtedly bundle up and complain against nights this cold, but for now the feeling is so welcome that I am wearing my thinnest shirt, and that unbuttoned. Each breath I take is like an inhalation chilled by mint. Were it not too late for caffeine, I would drink some iced tea, just to intensify the effect. Hooray for goose bumps! Autumn is here!
