Looking for Distraction, Finding too Little

The sky has turned gray. I feel a bit better for that.

Today's minor irritations: I ordered some CD's and they sent the wrong one; I'm running out of things I need, and can't get to the store.

Today's serious problem: Mom's condition is deteriorating, and she is having severe head pains.

Status of unresolved problems: unresolved.

Now I must cook dinner around missing ingredients.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. Is this something sudden or is it ongoing?

I don't know Mom's condition, but I remember you mentioning this before.
I also don't know the size of Paradise, although you indicate it's growing.
Maybe it's time to get some help in, whether it's an occasional visiting nurse, or respite care. Both my parents are gone, I've been there. It's really difficult when you're trying to be the only one providing the care. It's very unhealthy for you, even if you think you're capable of handling it. Take care of yourself, too.

She has been feeling worse for the last couple of weeks, after wrenching her back. She has long been subject to headaches, but today's was worse than usual.

She has been mostly bedridden for almost two years, and requires a lot of looking after.

Thanks. Since my dad is in fairly good health, other than his sense of balance being bad, and my sister is able to come over for at least part of most days (and also now does most of the shopping and other errands) I do get some help. The last couple of weeks have been rougher than usual, as mom wrenched her back and is even less mobile than before, and my sister has had to do a lot of overtime at work and thus has been less available. Things will probably get back to normal soon.

waning' is right. a visiting nurse or even hiring a caregiver to come in once a week really works wonders. my mom did that when my dad was bedridden for a long period of time.

now my mom is the one in need of care.

it's not easy ... physically, emotionally, mentally ... it's great to family working together the best they can.

has your dad gone to the doctor for his balance issues? i ask, because my mother has trouble with dizziness.

He did see a specialist who thought that the problem might be with his ears. He was given some treatments and exercises to do, which did help a bit, but the condition persists. There is a possibility that it results, in part, from a very minor, localized stroke.

My dad uses a walker. My mom has one of those wheelchairs with the small wheels, like a shopping cart, only not wobbly or squeaky. She pushes that around, leaning on the handles, and gets out to the kitchen three or four times a day that way. Once in a while she even rides in it. She's too stubborn to stay in bed all the time, and too impatient to wait for someone to push her.
