I once lived in a house where a driveway leading to three other houses was right outside my bedroom window. The L.A. Times was delivered early in the morning, and some of the carriers had very noisy cars. I found that whenever the carrier was changed, and a new car came down the driveway, it would wake me up, however noisy or quiet it was. But after a few days, I would grow accustomed to that particular sound and would sleep through it, until another change in carriers brought a different car.
